I was born in Silicon Valley, and my father was a computer programmer. Before that he was an auto mechanic, but he went to college at San Jose State and got a degree in mathematics. This was in the early days of computers, and there weren’t any degrees in Computer Science or coding. But a math degree could get you a job at Lockheed. It was an aerospace company that also built some of the vehicles for NASA, and they used big main frame computers that took up entire rooms, and were programmed with punch cards. The main frame computers required refrigeration and you had to wear dust free and sterile robes like surgeons. He kept working in computers throughout all the changes of the industry. Later, since he had been around for all the changes, the youngsters called him Obi Wan Kenobi.
